Diabetes

Some say diabetes is a bi**h! And it is, most of the times...

Type 1 Diabetes is (citing medlineplus.gov) "Diabetes means your blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels are too high. With type 1 diabetes, your pancreas does not make insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose get into your cells to give them energy. Without insulin, too much glucose stays in your blood. Over time, high blood glucose can lead to serious problems with your heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, and gums and teeth.
Type 1 diabetes happens most often in children and young adults but can appear at any age. "
But that is just what doctors and books tell you... yet is much more than that!
Diabetes, to me, is a way of life! Just the way you wake up everyday and check your email before breakfast and right after go for a run. Having type 1 diabetes has become my way of life, my way of demonstrating myself how much I can push the my limits and overcome my fears. In the mean while, having to beware of "ups" and "downs", taking into consideration emotions, physical activities, infections, sleep, food, medications, etc, etc, etc...
Many people have to learn that being diabetic is not about limitations, is more about how much do you want to live life to the fullest!
If you want to read about my experiences as a diabetic, if you have diabetes and want to share your story, or if you know someone with diabetes and wants to know more: please contact me, and I will more than glad to share my story!
